New Greek cuisine and deli offers healthy Mediterranean cuisine

Ergon is a new Greek restaurant and deli that has opened just a stone’s throw from Selfridge’s in London’s West End.

And although it is not simple village food, its not expensive and the dishes are a modern twist on many of those old favourites.

Ergon Restaurant

Ergon’s minimalist chic and healthy Mediterranean cuisine

Ergon launched in the lovely northern city of Thessaloniki at the height of the Greek financial crisis – so it got lots of publicity because most people thought the owners, brothers Tomas and Giorgos Douzis were crazy. There are now 6 restaurants and stores – Halkidiki, Skiathos, Rhodes, Mykonos, Athens, Thessaloniki and now in London’s Picton Place.

The restaurant is minimalist and the prices cheaper than normal in the West End. The dishes are meant for sharing and don’t expect the same old Greek meze.
Everything is beautifully served – taramasalata (£5), black tzatziki with Greek yogurt and squid ink (£4), roasted eggplant with walnuts (£5) and lava bean puree with cured pork, caramelised onions and truffle flavoured oil (£6) – and these are just the starters.

Ergon salad

Greek Salad

The homemade pasta with smoked pork, roasted red peppers, fresh cream and pine nuts (£9) is delicious…This restaurant is about getting together with your friends and trying Greek with a difference – you can only book by phone for parties of 6 and above. Otherwise you take your luck as you pass by.

Ergon produce

Regional Greek produce on sale at Ergon

The shelves around the restaurant are filled with all manner of treats including local honey, olive oil and wine. It’s hard not to leave without buying something!
